Placement testing
All incoming freshmen are required to complete placement testing in English and math, regardless of previous coursework or AP scores. For students interested in taking foreign languages must also take a written Foreign Language Placement Test. Placement testing can be completed in two ways:
Spring Regional Placement Testing
Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois residents are invited to take the spring regional placement tests in math, English, and foreign language during any of the spring regional testing dates. Test dates and locations are available online at http://testing.wisc.edu. You can also register for spring regional testing on the Testing and Evaluation Web site. Testing can occur at any UW campus.
Placement Testing at SOARĀ
Students can also complete placement testing during Day One of SOAR. Students who choose to take placement tests during SOAR need to arrive by 8:30 a.m. on Day One of their SOAR session. Placement testing is completed prior to SOAR check-in.
