Where to Stay

Photo of Elizabeth Waters residence Hall.

During the summer SOAR offers the opportunity for students and guests to stay in University Residence Halls while they attend SOAR. Overnight accommodations are available in Elizabeth Waters Hall (1200 Observatory Drive) for all SOAR participants. Elizabeth Waters Hall is located near the shore of Lake Mendota and within walking distance of the SOAR Program buildings. Staying in SOAR housing is a great way to sample life in the University Residence Halls.

See www.housing.wisc.edu/summer_conferences for details.

Availability: Residence Hall accommodations will be available Friday, June 6 - Friday August 1, 2008. Although one-night stays are most common, extended stays to accommodate travel plans are available.

Amenities: Rooms are air-conditioned and furnished with single beds, linens, pillow, blanket, towels, soap, desk, chairs, dresser, telephone, high speed Internet connections, and small refrigerator. Telephone service is limited to local calls, with long distance available by prepaid calling card or credit card. If you are staying more than one night, daily housekeeping service will be provided. Single-gender bathrooms are down the hall and include private shower stalls. Common-area lounges have televisions, and a computer kiosk is available to check your e-mail.

Room assignments: Students will be assigned to a double room with another student of the same gender. Parents and guests should indicate preference for a double or single room and a specific parent or guest roommate if desired. Parents/guests who do not request a specific roommate will be assigned a single room.

Room costs: $35.00 per person per night for a double or single room. This charge includes a full breakfast following the night(s) of your stay.

Check-in: Participants should check in for the SOAR program in the Welcome Center at 21 N. Park St. Following this, housing guests will pick up their keys between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. in the Elizabeth Waters Parlor. If you arrive prior to that time, arrangements can be made to store your luggage until your room is ready. Late arrivals may check in from 4:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Elizabeth Waters Hall Desk.

Check-out: Check-out time is 8:30 a.m. on the day you leave. Space will be available to store your luggage until you leave campus.

Reservations: Be sure to check your calendar carefully to determine whether you will need to be on campus the night before your SOAR session begins in order to take placement tests in the morning. You will receive a separate SOAR housing confirmation. If you need to change your housing reservation after you have reserved rooms, you can do so by accessing your reservation online at my.wisc.edu. Housing cancellations will be honored up to one week prior to the date of your scheduled arrival.
