LaVar J. Charleston

Dr. LaVar J. Charleston provides overall leadership for the university’s efforts to maintain an equitable and inclusive learning and working environment where students, faculty, and staff can flourish and feel a deep sense of belonging. He also holds the title of Elzie Higginbottom director of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement. A Badger alumnus from Detroit, Dr. Charleston is a clinical professor of higher education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) and most recently served as deputy vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion.
