John Zumbrunnen

Biography

John Zumbrunnen began serving as UW–Madison’s provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs in March 2026. Zumbrunnen served as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs since June of 2025, succeeding Charles Lee Isbell, Jr., who served as provost from 2023-2025. During his time at UW, Zumbrunnen has held a variety of academic and administrative leadership positions. Prior to serving as interim provost, he served as senior vice provost for academic affairs and vice provost for teaching and learning, in which he oversaw and helped found the Division for Teaching and Learning.
